ComedyLab, organised by the renommed Torino Film Lab, is a truly unique concept that brings together talented writers with projects and comedy writers/performers without projects to create a fusion of expertise and comedic brilliance. It’s an exclusive club that, after a two-day preliminary workshop (February 2017 in Vienna), will select up to four projects with the potential for international success along with a group of comedy writers/performers without projects and provides them with a tailored approach to script and production development.
Workshop timeline:
Preliminary Workshop: 25th – 28th February 2027 (residential – Vienna, Austria)
1st Workshop: 6th – 11th April 2027 (residential, Belgium)
2nd Workshop: 4th – 9th June 2027 (residential, Luxembourg)
3rd Workshop: end of July 2027 (online)

ComedyLab is open to both experienced and emerging writer/directors, or teams of writer and director, from all over the world. It is possible to apply as an individual or as a team of two.
We are looking for a project from Austria or an author residing in Austria, respectively, who wants to participate in the “Preliminary Workshop” (February 25–28, 2027)! The workshop and the participation fee of the Austrian project are financed by the Austrian Film Institute! (In case additional travel and accomodation costs would apply, this needs to be covered by the participant(s).)
Following the preliminary workshop, the workshop organisors will decide which four projects will move on to the one-year main workshop module (see above). If the Austrian project is selected, participation may be supported through ÖFI’s funding program „Berufliche Weiterbildung“ (50% of workshop costs (fee, accomodation, travel) are eligible for funding, provided the participant’s primary residence is in Austria). Costs (participation fee including accomodation, excluding travel) for the modules are: 750 Euro (+ VAT, if due) for participants without a project; 3,000 Euro (+ VAT, if due) for participants with a project, and an extra fee of 2,300 Euro (+ VAT, if due) for a potential second participant per project, selected to join the programme (co-writer, director).
Application deadline: Monday November 30, 2026, 4pm!
