Creative Europe comprises the EU-funding schemes CULTURE and MEDIA and aims at supporting and strengthening the European cultural, creative and film sector. Creative Europe has a total budget of 1.46 billion Euro and is running from 2014-2020. 56 % of the budget are dedicated to the sub-programme MEDIA, 31 % of the budget go to the culture programme. A third sub-programme implements trans-sectoral measures and includes a € 121 million guarantee facility to enhance the access to finance of SMEs in the cultural and creative sector (CCS).

 Eurimages is the cultural support fund of the Council of Europe. Established in 1989, it currently numbers 37 of the 47 member states of the Strasbourg-based Organisation, plus Canada as Associate member.Eurimages promotes independent filmmaking by providing financial support to feature-length films, animation and documentary films. In doing so, it encourages co-operation between professionals established in different countries.

Eurimages has a total annual budget of € 25 million. This financial envelope derives essentially from the contributions of the member states as well as returns on the loans granted.

Reform
Following the approval of the reform of the Eurimages Fund by the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers last September, the Eurimages Board of Management decided at its strategic meeting held by videoconference on 16 October 2020 for the reform to be effective as from 1 January 2022. The modalities of this new governance will be finalised in 2021.
