Scars of a Putsch

The military coup of September 12, 1980 abruptly ended the dream of a democracy in Turkey. The director’s husband was a Turkish revolutionary in the 1970s and fled to Vienna, Austria, at that time. Director Nathalie Borgers goes on a personal quest to discover what is hidden behind the scars on her husband’s body and how the violent upheaval changed Turkey’s society and paved the way to an authoritarian regime and the political Re-Islamization of the country.
