The European Audiovisual Observatory, part of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, has just published its latest free report, Green Transformation in the Audiovisual Sector’. This new report examines the impact of the audiovisual sector on the environment. It examines international and pan-European legislation in this area, then looks at national legislation and film funding criteria, before concluding with a look at current systems for calculating carbon footprints and cooperative approaches to sustainability in this sector.

Among other things, Chapter Four deals with the concept of sustainability in national law and also considers the role that film funding criteria play in supporting best practices. This chapter presents Austria, the Austrian Film Institute and EVERGREEN PRISMA as examples of best practice.
